My reflections
1 Corinthians 1:24-25 “But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.” Through Jesus’ powerful death, we have been called by God to enjoy this salvation. Once we understand this simple act of salvation that Jesus finalized through his death and resurrection, we can comprehend this powerful wisdom of God. Power of God = Jesus dying and rising again for us. Wisdom of God = understanding that Jesus’ death grants us salvation. v.25 “This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans and God’s weakness is stronger that the greatest of human strength.” Paul seems to be sarcastic in this verse. In v.18 he mentions “The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction!” Therefore, in v.25 Paul is being sarcastic when he says “this foolish plan of God” because in actuality the plan he is speaking of is His Mighty plan of Jesus coming to earth and dying so we might be blessed with salvation. It fits the enigmatic pieces of being “wiser than the wisest of human plans.” When Paul mentions “God’s weakness,” he is speaking of how Jesus’ body was weak and in a human body he suffered all of the gruesome pain. Even after Jesus suffered that unbearable death, it was still “stronger than the greatest of human strengths.” Jesus humbly laid down his divine power to uphold the weakness of a human body. He did this all so that we might encounter salvation.
1 Corinthians 1:28 “God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring nothing what the world considers important.” That’s right. We’re actually nothings. We were nobody until God started to dwell in our hearts. He chose us mere nothings to fight for what people today consider to be non-important. Most people consider that when you’re powerful, well-known, and wealthy you’ve reached all importance in society; however, when you realize you’re nothing without God, a light shines on the more important aspects of your life. v.29 “As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.” Who are we to boast when God has brought nothings to be friends of Him? v.30-31 “God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be the wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy and he freed us from sin. Therefore, as the scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.” In Psalm 8:5 it says how God has crowned us with glory and honor. We are nothing and yet he has done that for us. Salvation is open to anyone who wants to understand it and once they do, they’ll realize how it’s really everything. Nothings and nobodys can have everything through one act of comprehension.
